You read about a grocery special in the local newspaper.  You drive a short way to pick up some groceries and then buy some gas.  The employees you just supported will deposit part of their paycheck in the local bank, and go out to eat before going home.  The employee at the bank or restaurant conveniently uses local insurance agents, bookkeeping services, housecleaning services, and the local post office, where there are no long lines and plenty of neighborly service.  The sales taxes collected at each business are returned to the city and/or county where they originated.  That money is used by the local governments to improve streets, ensure an adequate and safe water supply, install and upgrade the sewer system, develop and maintain parks, and provide better safety and security for its residents.
